Report Interpretation
Overview
This earnings review argues that Shengyi Technology’s AI-oriented product mix is driving a structural improvement in CCL and PCB profitability. Citi raises forecasts and its target price while maintaining Buy, though it applies a lower target P/E multiple to reflect market caution over the durability of AI capital expenditure.
Core views
Shengyi reported 1H26 net profit of Rmb3.287bn, up 130.4% year on year and at the high end of its preliminary Rmb3.1–3.3bn range. Citi attributes the result to a faster shift toward AI-CCL and AI-PCB. It therefore raises 2026–28 earnings estimates by 21–22%, primarily by increasing its CCL gross-margin assumptions. The stock had retreated more than 25% from its mid-June peak, and Citi reiterates Buy while raising the target price to Rmb205. The central operating thesis is that AI-CCL will become a larger and more profitable portion of sales. Citi expects AI-CCL to account for about 20% of total volume by end-2026, compared with about 15% in mid-2026 and 10% in 2025. The report links this mix shift to continued share gains with Nvidia: Shengyi’s wallet share is described as moving from single digits in GB200 to the teens in GB300 and likely above 20% in the next-generation Vera Rubin platform. Citi views Shengyi’s high-frequency CCL technology and range of solutions as the basis for this progression. Margins are expected to improve structurally through 2026–28 as product specifications rise and the industry benefits from both volume and price improvement. Shengyi’s CCL gross margin rose 5.5 percentage points year on year to an all-time-high 29.2% in 1H26; Citi forecasts the segment to exceed its prior 27.5% peak in 2021 and reach 33% in 2028E. Its approximately 60%-owned PCB subsidiary, Shengyi Electronics, recorded a 31.2% gross margin, up 3.4 percentage points year on year, as revenue grew 53.5% to Rmb5.784bn and net profit reached Rmb1.111bn. Citi says the PCB operation is benefiting from AI-PCB demand, principally from AWS, and could add ASIC customers. Capacity investment is intended to support the demand outlook. The Thailand plant is expected to begin trial production in 2H26. Jiangxi Shengyi Phase II reached full production in 1H26, adding 18m sqm of annual CCL capacity—more than 10% of current capacity—and 34m metres of commercial prepreg. The Dongguan High-Performance CCL Project has estimated investment of about Rmb5.2bn across two phases and targets 48m sqm of annual high-end base-material capacity for high-speed, automotive and packaging uses. Overall, Citi expects monthly capacity to rise about 50% to 15m sheets, or 216m sqm annually, by 2029E from 2026E. Citi’s financial forecasts reflect this operating leverage: revenue is projected to rise from Rmb28.431bn in 2025 to Rmb48.164bn in 2026E, Rmb64.503bn in 2027E and Rmb76.949bn in 2028E. Reported net profit is forecast at Rmb7.144bn, Rmb10.285bn and Rmb12.335bn, respectively, while group gross margin rises from 26.5% in 2025 to 30.6%, 32.1% and 32.5%. The near-term trade-off is heavier capital expenditure: there was no interim dividend, versus Rmb0.40 per share in 1H25, while 1H26 investing outflow widened to Rmb3.322bn from Rmb988m a year earlier. The Rmb205 target is based on 48x 2027E P/E, or +2 standard deviations above the historical mean. This is lower than the prior 56x at +3 standard deviations because Citi notes rising investor caution about AI hyperscalers’ capital-expenditure sustainability and Nvidia-related circular-financing concerns. Citi nevertheless considers the premium justified by a forecast 55% 2025–28E EPS CAGR, 0.9x implied PEG, market-share gains from 8% in 2007 to 13% in 2025, early entry into Nvidia’s AI supply chain among Chinese CCL suppliers, and greater demand for domestic component sourcing. Citi prefers Shengyi over Shennan Circuit because Shengyi provides upstream AI-CCL and substrate exposure in the A-share market.
Analysis framework
Citi starts with the 1H26 earnings beat, attributes it to higher-margin AI-related product mix, then carries that mix and margin trend into 2026–28 estimates. It tests the thesis through Nvidia supply-chain share gains, segment margins, capacity additions and projected financial statements, and values the shares on a forward P/E multiple benchmarked to the company’s historical trading range and EPS growth.
Methodology notes
AI-CCL product-mix and volume-and-price analysis
The report links higher AI-CCL penetration, higher utilization and pricing to rising gross margins and earnings.
Forward P/E valuation cross-checked against PEG
Citi sets the Rmb205 target using 48x 2027E P/E at +2 standard deviations and notes that the implied 0.9x PEG is comparable with regional peers.
Operating leverage from higher revenue growth and product mix
The report expects stronger revenue and a richer high-end mix to expand operating and gross margins, while also noting increased capital expenditure.
