Report Interpretation

Overview

This event commentary assesses how OpenAI's September 29 DevDay announcements may affect enterprise software. JPMorgan argues that Marketplace partnerships and agent-infrastructure expansion are broadly favorable for embedded enterprise vendors and OpenAI partners, but that new collaboration and workflow capabilities increase competitive intensity for several software categories.

Core views

OpenAI made more than 20 DevDay announcements aimed primarily at expanding its Enterprise presence. Key launches included always-on agents called “dots,” shared ChatGPT workspaces through Space, Pages and collaborative slides, GPT-6.1 Sol at one-fifth of GPT-6 Astra token prices, and an OpenAI Marketplace. JPMorgan expects the moves to raise competitive pressure on AI-related monetization for parts of its software coverage, while benefiting companies able to partner with OpenAI. The firm believes the overall read-through favors vendors that own systems of record, data and workflows, as well as Enterprise partners, because the launches could accelerate enterprise adoption of AI capabilities. The Marketplace included 32 partners, including Adobe, Datadog, Figma, HubSpot, Salesforce and ServiceNow. JPMorgan says eligibility should support distribution in the AI era in a model similar to cloud marketplaces: customers contract with and pay the partner directly, while OpenAI reconciles use of the customer's existing commitment. The benefit is qualified, however, because eligibility applies to specific products rather than every product from a listed partner, and the eligible amount varies with each customer's OpenAI agreement. Adobe and Figma were also featured for plugin extensions that run native applications within ChatGPT; examples included Photoshop features in ChatGPT and a Figma workflow for reviewing design comments and requesting revisions alongside a conversation. The report highlights greater competitive overlap in collaboration software. Space and Pages, PowerPoint-exporting slides, and @ChatGPT in Teams can compete with Microsoft 365 Copilot, although JPMorgan notes offsetting integration: dots can be reached in Teams, and OpenAI is working with Microsoft to manage specialist dots through Agent 365. AWS Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI in limited preview, keeps inference and data within AWS; AWS customers can also access OpenAI frontier models and use Codex and ChatGPT Work, adding to the competitive backdrop for Azure as OpenAI's primary workload home. JPMorgan sees incremental pressure on Zoom, monday.com and Dropbox. Its Meetings plugin overlaps with Zoom AI Companion, while Space combines pages and files in a way that overlaps with monday.com and Dropbox; connected tools can update pages, and planned slides are intended to be read and modified by agents. Salesforce and ServiceNow are positioned as both partners and competitors: @ChatGPT and dots in Slack place OpenAI's assistant within Salesforce's collaboration layer, and specialist dots for accounting, marketing and legal work could extend into ServiceNow workflow automation. At the same time, Salesforce's Headless 360 was positioned as a data and control layer for OpenAI agents on AWS. JPMorgan expects these vendors to remain deeply embedded in large-enterprise workflows through established integrations, administrative controls and customer data, and currently expects partnership-led enablement to be net positive. Agent-infrastructure announcements provide a favorable read-through for Cloudflare, Oracle and Datadog. Dots are designed to operate continuously in the cloud; Codex can run cloud tasks independently in the background; and the Agents API adds computer use in an OpenAI-hosted sandbox, customer infrastructure or sandbox partners including Cloudflare and Oracle. OpenAI reported 100x year-over-year growth in the Responses API while maintaining more than 99% reliability, a 45% reduction in time to first token, and over 30% faster tool calls and workflows. GPT-6.1 Sol pricing was stated at $2/$10 per million input/output tokens, with cached input at $0.10—95% below standard input pricing and 50% below GPT-6 Sol cached-input pricing. An Ultrafast tier provides eight times standard speed for six times the price. JPMorgan believes these improvements should move more agent workloads into production and support demand for observability vendors such as Datadog.

Analysis framework

JPMorgan evaluates each DevDay launch by tracing its distribution, product-overlap and infrastructure implications for enterprise-software vendors. It compares new OpenAI capabilities with existing collaboration and workflow offerings, then weighs competitive risks against partnership, integration and enterprise-adoption benefits.

Impact & implications

The report expects Marketplace access and deeper OpenAI integration to improve distribution and AI adoption for partners, particularly vendors with embedded enterprise data, workflows and systems of record. Conversely, OpenAI's collaboration and specialist-agent tools create added competitive overlap for productivity, collaboration and workflow vendors. Infrastructure expansion is viewed as supportive for Cloudflare, Oracle and Datadog.

Risks

  • OpenAI's Enterprise expansion may intensify competition around AI monetization, collaboration and workflow software.
  • Even Marketplace partners must balance cooperation with OpenAI against competition for Enterprise-customer monetization.
  • Marketplace benefits are constrained by product-level eligibility and each customer's OpenAI commitment terms.

What to watch

  • Enterprise rollout and adoption of OpenAI's new collaboration, workspace and agent products.
  • Whether embedded enterprise vendors retain advantages from integrations, administrative controls and customer data.
  • Marketplace product eligibility and the amount of customer OpenAI commitments available for partner software.
  • Migration of agent workloads into production and resulting demand for observability and cloud infrastructure.
