  • The report expects deeply embedded enterprise vendors to benefit net from higher AI adoption despite greater competition.

Report Interpretation

Overview

J.P. Morgan assesses OpenAI's September 29 DevDay as an Enterprise-focused expansion that improves distribution for approved Marketplace partners and supports agent-infrastructure demand, while making OpenAI a more direct competitor to parts of the software stack. Its net view favors vendors that control systems of record, data and workflows or partner with OpenAI, subject to Enterprise adoption and monetization execution.

Core views

OpenAI announced more than 20 products and initiatives at DevDay, including always-on agents called “dots,” collaborative ChatGPT workspaces through Space, Pages and slides, GPT-6.1 Sol at one-fifth of GPT-6 Astra's token price, and an OpenAI Marketplace. J.P. Morgan interprets these announcements as a push into the Enterprise market. This can increase pressure on AI-related monetization for parts of software coverage, but should benefit companies that become OpenAI partners or own enterprise systems of record, data and workflow. Six covered companies—Adobe, Datadog, Figma, HubSpot, Salesforce and ServiceNow—were included in Marketplace partnership announcements alongside 32 partners. For Marketplace partners, the report sees a distribution benefit comparable in structure to cloud marketplaces: enterprise customers contract with and pay the partner directly, while OpenAI reconciles usage against the customer's existing OpenAI commitment. Eligibility is product-specific rather than applying to all products from a listed partner, and the eligible amount depends on the customer's OpenAI agreement. Adobe and Figma were also featured as plugin-extension launch partners. Photoshop capabilities can be used inside ChatGPT, while the Figma demonstration showed a user opening a design, reviewing team comments and asking ChatGPT to revise it alongside the conversation. J.P. Morgan nevertheless notes that partners must balance cooperation with OpenAI against competition for Enterprise monetization. Collaboration features create the most visible competitive overlap. Space and Pages, slides that export to PowerPoint, and @ChatGPT in Teams compete with Microsoft 365 Copilot, although OpenAI is also deepening integration with Microsoft: dots can be reached in Teams and OpenAI is working to integrate specialist dots into Agent 365. The report also cites AWS Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI in limited preview, which retain inference and data within AWS. Altman's comments that AWS customers can access OpenAI frontier models and use Codex and ChatGPT Work add to the competitive backdrop for Azure as OpenAI's primary workload home. J.P. Morgan identifies incremental pressure on Zoom, monday.com and Dropbox. The Meetings plugin overlaps with Zoom's AI Companion; Space overlaps with monday.com and Dropbox because it combines pages and files, updates from connected tools and is designed for agent-readable and agent-modifiable slides. @ChatGPT and dots in Slack extend OpenAI's assistant into Salesforce's collaboration layer, while specialist dots for accounting, marketing and legal work—piloted in procurement, invoice processing, customer support and commercial contracting—could encroach on ServiceNow workflow automation. Salesforce and ServiceNow are therefore positioned as both partners and competitors. The report expects their established integrations, administrative controls, customer data and embedded positions in large-enterprise workflows to support a positive net partnership outcome, but flags Enterprise rollout as a watchpoint. Agent-infrastructure announcements support Cloudflare, Oracle and Datadog, in J.P. Morgan's view. Dots run continuously in the cloud; Codex now runs fully in the cloud so tasks can execute independently in the background; and the Agents API adds computer use in an OpenAI-hosted sandbox, on customer infrastructure or through sandbox partners including Cloudflare and Oracle. OpenAI reported 100x year-over-year growth in the Responses API while maintaining more than 99% reliability, a 45% reduction in time to first token, and more than 30% faster tool calls and workflows. GPT-6.1 Sol is priced at $2/$10 per million input/output tokens, with cached input at $0.10—95% below standard input pricing and 50% below GPT-6 Sol cached-input pricing. An Ultrafast tier provides eight times standard speed for six times the price. Together, these metrics lead the report to expect faster movement of agent workloads into production and stronger demand for observability vendors such as Datadog.

Analysis framework

The report evaluates each DevDay announcement by tracing its Enterprise distribution, collaboration and workflow implications to affected software vendors. It then distinguishes partner benefits from competitive overlap and uses OpenAI's usage, reliability, latency and pricing metrics to assess whether agent workloads may move into production faster.

Methodology notes

  • Competition & strategyValue chain analysis

Enterprise software value-chain and workflow-position analysis

The report compares whether vendors control systems of record, customer data, integrations and workflows, which it treats as determinants of their ability to benefit from or withstand OpenAI's expansion.

  • Industry AnalysisUpstream-Midstream-Downstream Transmission

Agent workload transmission to cloud, sandbox and observability providers

It links OpenAI's lower-cost, faster and more reliable agent tools to increased production workloads, then to demand for infrastructure and observability vendors.

Impact & implications

The report argues that Marketplace access can improve partner distribution and that lower-cost, faster agent capabilities can accelerate enterprise AI adoption. At the same time, OpenAI's collaboration, productivity and specialist-agent tools increase direct competition for vendors whose products overlap with those capabilities; vendors with entrenched data, controls and workflows are viewed as better positioned.

Risks

  • Partners may face a trade-off between OpenAI-enabled distribution and increased competition for Enterprise monetization.
  • OpenAI's collaboration and specialist-agent tools may increase competitive pressure on affected collaboration and workflow vendors.

What to watch

  • Enterprise rollout and adoption of OpenAI's new products.
  • Whether established enterprise vendors retain their embedded workflow, integration, administrative-control and customer-data advantages.
  • The pace at which lower-cost and faster agent capabilities move workloads into production.
