Report Interpretation
Overview
This update reviews ASMedia’s 2Q26 results and its medium-term product outlook. Bank of America sees an earnings beat driven by WT Micro investment income, while maintaining a Neutral rating because the core AMD-related chipset business faces weak demand and margin pressure into late 2026.
Core views
ASMedia reported 2Q26 net income of NT$2.017bn and EPS of NT$27.04, exceeding BofA estimates by 17.6% and 17.9%, respectively, and consensus by 20.5%. The principal reason was NT$1.4bn of investment gain from WT Micro. Pre-tax income reached NT$2.185bn, up 12.8% quarter on quarter and 61.4% year on year, while the pre-tax margin expanded to 80.3%. The report therefore distinguishes the headline earnings strength from the underlying operating trend. Core operations were weaker. Revenue was NT$2.723bn, down 22.2% quarter on quarter and 19.8% year on year, 12.8% below BofA estimates and 7.5% below consensus. Gross profit was NT$1.369bn and gross margin was 50.3%, down 0.5 percentage point quarter on quarter and 2.1 percentage points year on year. BofA attributes the softer margin partly to a higher mix of previous-generation AMD AM4 chipsets. Operating income of NT$649mn was 3.6% below BofA estimates and 4.0% below consensus, although operating expenses were more contained than expected and limited the operating-profit miss despite the larger revenue and gross-margin shortfalls. For 3Q26 and the second half of 2026, the report flags downside risk to revenue as AMD-chipset demand remains soft. It expects gross-margin headwinds to continue because of cost inflation, although higher ASPs in ASMedia’s own-brand business beginning in 3Q26 should provide some offset. BofA maintains Neutral because these core-business pressures are likely to remain over the next few quarters. It views the WT Micro stake as a source of more durable investment gains that could support dividend payout and yield, but not as a replacement for a recovery in the operating business. Beyond 2026, BofA identifies a possible improvement in 2027 revenue growth because comparisons against 2026 should be easier. It is encouraged by the potential start of USB4 host-controller shipments to ASMedia’s first US robotics customer in 2027, with likely volume above 1mn units and ASP above US$10. However, the PCIe-switch tape-out has been delayed to early 2027 from 2H26, and USB4 version 2 controller scheduling has also changed. As a result, the report now expects revenue contribution from these products no earlier than late 2027 or early 2028. The NT$1,750 price objective uses a sum-of-the-parts approach: 18x 2027E P/E for the core business, supported by a projected 24% CAGR over 2026-28E; 11x 2027E P/E for WT Micro, in which ASMedia holds about a 19% stake; and close to NT$80 of net cash per share. The valuation is also described as supported by projected ROE recovery to 25% in 2027 and 33% in 2028, plus NT$65 of free cash flow per share generated over 2027-28E.
Analysis framework
The report first separates the earnings beat from the underlying operating result by comparing revenue, margin, operating profit and net income with BofA estimates and consensus. It then assesses near-term AMD-related demand and cost pressures, reviews the timing and economics of USB4 and PCIe products, and values the core business, WT Micro investment and net cash separately in a sum-of-the-parts framework.
Methodology notes
Sum-of-the-parts valuation
The report values ASMedia’s core business, its WT Micro stake and net cash separately to derive the NT$1,750 price objective.
Forward P/E valuation
BofA applies 18x 2027E P/E to the core business and 11x 2027E P/E to WT Micro within its sum-of-the-parts valuation.
Asset mapping & comparison
Structured mapping from thesis to named assets (strengths, weaknesses, peers, risks).
- ASMedia Technology Inc. (5269.TW)Primary covered company; earnings are supported by WT Micro investment gains while its core AMD-chipset business faces demand and margin pressure.
- Strengths
- WT Micro investment gains, potential dividend support, USB4 robotics opportunity, projected ROE recovery and net cash.
- Weaknesses
- Soft AMD-chipset demand, lower revenue and gross margin, and delayed PCIe/USB4 version 2 revenue contribution.
- Comparison
- 2Q26 EPS exceeded BofA estimates by 17.9% and consensus by 20.5%, but revenue was below both benchmarks.
- Risks
- PC-demand slowdown, foundry supply tightness and AMD chip-design share loss or AMD PC-market share loss.
- WT MicroASMedia holds around a 19% stake and records investment gains from it.
- Strengths
- Its investment contribution was the principal driver of ASMedia’s 2Q26 EPS beat.
- Comparison
- Valued at 11x 2027E P/E within the price objective, versus 18x for ASMedia’s core business.

- Projected ROE25% in 2027E; 33% in 2028ECited as valuation support.
Impact & implications
The report’s Neutral stance reflects a split between weak near-term core operations and supportive non-operating investment income. A recovery in AMD-related demand and the execution timing of USB4 and PCIe products are central to whether longer-term opportunities translate into operating growth.
Risks
- PC-related demand could slow; ASMedia has more than 80% revenue exposure to this market.
- Sustained foundry supply tightness could hurt product delivery and gross margin.
- Competition could cause share loss in AMD chip-design business, or AMD could lose share in the PC end market.
What to watch
- AMD-chipset demand trends and their effect on 3Q26 revenue.
- Cost inflation, own-brand ASP increases and the resulting gross-margin trajectory in 2H26.
- Progress of USB4 host-controller shipments to the first US robotics customer in 2027.
- PCIe-switch tape-out in early 2027 and the timing of USB4 version 2 revenue contribution.
- The pace of AMD-business recovery if substrate supply becomes less constrained.
