KLA Corporation (KLAC) Report Interpretation
KLA delivered results and guidance modestly above expectations, but UBS sees limited evidence of broad pricing power or sustained margin expansion. Strong WFE growth remains intact, yet memory costs and an Intel-related comparison headwind temper KLA's relative outlook.
Summary
KLA delivered results and guidance modestly above expectations, but UBS sees limited evidence of broad pricing power or sustained margin expansion. Strong WFE growth remains intact, yet memory costs and an Intel-related comparison headwind temper KLA's relative outlook.
- The 12-month Neutral rating is maintained while the price target is reduced from US$240 to US$215.
- FQ4:26 revenue of US$3.658bn and non-GAAP EPS of US$1.05 exceeded UBS and Street estimates.
- September-quarter guidance calls for about US$4.0bn of revenue and US$1.16 of non-GAAP EPS.
- UBS expects KLA's C2026 WFE share to remain roughly flat year on year at 7.7%.
- Management cited higher memory-related costs and contractual limits on repricing already-slotted tools.
- The target-price reduction reflects a lower roughly 25x NTM P/E multiple and C2028E EPS of US$8.57.
Report Interpretation
Overview
This earnings review examines whether KLA's better-than-guided results and improving WFE backdrop change the investment case. UBS remains Neutral, arguing that encouraging demand and selected business-line growth are offset by muted pricing and margin commentary, memory-related cost pressures, and a difficult Intel comparison.
Core views
KLA reported and guided modestly above expectations: FQ4:26 revenue was US$3.658bn, compared with UBS's US$3.665bn estimate and the Street's US$3.608bn; non-GAAP EPS of US$1.05 was above UBS's US$1.03 and consensus US$1.00. Gross margin was 62.4%, 65 basis points above the midpoint of guidance, which management attributed partly to a lower mix of margin-dilutive services revenue and manufacturing-scale leverage. For FQ1:27, guidance of about US$4.0bn in revenue and US$1.16 in non-GAAP EPS was broadly in line with UBS expectations, while revenue was expected to rise roughly 10% quarter on quarter. UBS nevertheless found the company’s commentary on the two main semiconductor-production-equipment debates—WFE market size and pricing-led margin upside—to be subdued. The firm remains bullish on WFE growth through 2028 and beyond, but expects KLA to struggle to keep pace with overall market growth because of memory mix and an Intel pull-forward in the current year. UBS estimates that, assuming C2026 Semi Systems growth of 26% year on year and Services growth of 14% to roughly US$3.3bn, KLA’s C2026 WFE share will remain broadly flat at 7.7% year on year. On margins, management acknowledged that memory-related costs are higher than previously expected. UBS notes that KLA did not signal broad-based price increases to offset these costs: pricing at major customers is negotiated through formal, node-specific cost-of-ownership agreements, and tools already placed under contract cannot simply be repriced mid-contract. Competition across product categories also requires balancing price actions against market-share preservation. KLA is redesigning systems to use DDR5 rather than DDR4; management expects this eventually to become a cost tailwind as memory supply normalizes and memory pricing falls, but UBS sees little change to the company’s longer-term gross-margin outlook at present. The report highlights Intel as a near-term comparison issue. KLA said its SPC-related Intel spend had already exceeded Intel's overall year-on-year WFE spending growth and implied growth above 40% year on year, although Intel was not expected to become an approximately 10% customer this fiscal year. UBS views this elevated C2026 contribution as creating a difficult comparison for the following year if Intel's WFE spending is not similarly strong. EPC-related revenue from SPTS plus PCB/computational inspection is expected to total approximately US$275m across CQ3 and CQ4. UBS models the segment up 25% year on year in C2026, a stronger growth rate than the mid- to high-single-digit CAGR management had indicated at its Analyst Day a few months earlier. Management also expects EPC revenue to grow 18%-22% year on year in C2027, supported by incremental GPU-related PCB retooling associated largely with Nvidia's VR ramp. Broader WFE demand improvement across segments into the second half of 2026 is consistent with UBS's prior read-through from ASML and is favorable for Lam Research and Applied Materials, while accelerating 2027 growth expectations are positive for semiconductor-equipment suppliers. UBS made only modest changes to its longer-term earnings outlook. Its CY2026 revenue/EPS estimates rise to US$15.7bn/US$4.57 from US$15.3bn/US$4.39; CY2027 estimates change to US$20.4bn/US$6.34 from US$20.2bn/US$6.38; and CY2028 estimates rise to US$25.6bn/US$8.57 from US$25.1bn/US$8.61. The US$215 target price, down from US$240, applies an approximately 25x NTM P/E multiple to C2028E non-GAAP EPS of US$8.57, versus the prior approximately 28x multiple and US$8.61 EPS estimate. UBS says the lower multiple better aligns with KLA's S&P-implied three-year historical average following the recent selloff in AI-related technology stocks.
Analysis framework
UBS compares reported results and guidance with its own and Street estimates, then assesses WFE demand, market-share trends, customer spending, pricing constraints, segment outlook and gross-margin drivers. It updates revenue and EPS forecasts and values KLA using a forward P/E multiple applied to its non-GAAP EPS estimate.
Methodology notes
Forward P/E valuation
UBS derives its US$215 price target by applying an approximately 25x next-twelve-month P/E multiple to its C2028E non-GAAP EPS estimate of US$8.57.
WFE demand, share and customer-spending analysis
The report links semiconductor-equipment demand, memory mix, customer capital spending and Intel's contribution to KLA's expected revenue growth and relative market-share trajectory.

Impact & implications
UBS views the broad WFE demand outlook and EPC growth as supportive for the semiconductor-equipment group, but concludes that KLA's relative growth and margin prospects remain constrained by memory-related cost pressure, limited ability to reprice contracted tools, and an unusually strong Intel contribution that may raise the following year's comparison base.
Risks
- Macroeconomic or geopolitical deterioration could reduce semiconductor end-market demand and capital-equipment spending.
- A semiconductor end-market slowdown could lead customers to defer or postpone orders with KLA.
- Market-share shifts, currency fluctuations, tax-policy changes and M&A are identified valuation risks.
- Higher memory-related costs and limited ability to reprice already-contracted tools could constrain gross-margin improvement.
