Report Interpretation

Overview

This earnings review argues that CoreWeave's accelerated data-center power activation is translating into faster revenue growth and a better margin outlook. BofA raised revenue and capital-expenditure estimates, retained its Buy rating, and maintained its $140 price objective.

Core views

CoreWeave reported a stronger-than-expected 2Q26 as capacity additions drove growth. Revenue reached $2.575bn, up 112.3% year on year and 23.9% quarter on quarter, modestly above the $2.525bn estimate. Operating income was $128.0mn versus an estimated $60.5mn, producing a 5.0% operating margin versus 2.4% estimated. RPO rose to roughly $104bn, up about $4bn quarter on quarter, and management cited more than $25bn of commitments signed in early 3Q that were not included in the 2Q RPO balance. BofA views this backlog and the new commitments as evidence that demand remains supportive of continued deployment. The main operating driver is the pace of active-power expansion. Active power increased 50% quarter on quarter from 1.0GW to 1.5GW, including 300MW activated in June. Management raised its year-end active-power target to more than 1.85GW from more than 1.7GW. Contracted power reached 3.7GW at quarter-end and 4.2GW in early 3Q, while management indicated roughly 1.5GW of additional capacity optionality. BofA believes these developments increase confidence in the company's stated objective of 8GW of active power by year-end 2030. The raised year-end target implies about 350MW of further active power, which BofA expects to be weighted toward 3Q. The faster buildout requires materially higher investment. 2Q capital expenditure was $9.4bn, above the $8.1bn Street estimate, and FY26 capital-expenditure guidance increased from $32.5bn to $37bn. BofA raised its own 3Q and 4Q capex estimates to $12.5bn and $8.3bn, respectively. Its revised FY26, FY27 and FY28 revenue forecasts are $12.837bn, $25.963bn and $41.029bn, compared with previous estimates of $12.511bn, $25.199bn and $39.886bn. However, the larger spending requirement and interest burden mean earnings estimates were reduced: adjusted EPS is now forecast at negative $3.93 for 2026, negative $0.89 for 2027, and $2.68 for 2028, versus negative $3.54, negative $0.54 and $3.16 previously. BofA nevertheless expects the capacity ramp to improve profitability. FY26 operating-margin guidance rose to 8.2% from 8.0%, and the report forecasts operating margin of 6.6% in 3Q26 and 14.6% in 4Q26 as newly activated capacity converts backlog into revenue. Contracts signed in 2Q carried contribution margins 5–1 percentage points above contracts signed in prior quarters, while an approximately 25% price increase took effect in July. The report attributes the pricing to scarce capacity and rising customer return on investment as inference workloads proliferate. It also identifies margin-accretive ancillary businesses and shorter-duration enterprise contracts as supports for an operating-margin profile above 25–30%. The $140 price objective is based on 26x BofA's CY27E EV/EBIT multiple, above the 14–19x range for the cloud-data-center group because of the report's elevated revenue-growth expectations. The report maintains Buy on the view that CoreWeave's faster GPU deployment timelines, data-center pipeline, and AI-optimized infrastructure position it to capture demand for large-scale AI compute.

Analysis framework

BofA compares 2Q26 results with its estimates and Street expectations, then links active-power deployment, contracted capacity and backlog to revised revenue and capital-expenditure forecasts. It assesses margin progression through capacity utilization, contract contribution margins and pricing, and values the company using a CY27E EV/EBIT multiple relative to cloud-data-center peers.

Methodology notes

  • Valuation methods

    CY27E EV/EBIT multiple valuation

BofA derives its $140 price objective from a 26x multiple of estimated 2027 enterprise value to EBIT, set above the cited cloud-data-center peer range because it expects stronger revenue growth.

  • Industry AnalysisSupply-demand framework

Capacity deployment, contracted power and backlog analysis

The report uses active and contracted power, RPO, and customer commitments to assess whether AI-compute supply can meet demand and translate into revenue.

Asset mapping & comparison

Structured mapping from thesis to named assets (strengths, weaknesses, peers, risks).

  • CoreWeave (CRWV)
Primary covered company and beneficiary of accelerating demand for AI-optimized GPU compute infrastructure.
    Strengths
Faster GPU deployment, expanding active and contracted power, a large RPO balance, and improved pricing and contract contribution margins.
    Weaknesses
Large capital requirements and continued near-term losses in BofA's forecasts.
    Comparison
The 26x CY27E EV/EBIT valuation multiple is above the cited 14–19x cloud-data-center peer range.
    Risks
High price volatility, customer concentration, supplier concentration under capacity constraints, and competition from Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, and Amazon AWS.

  • FY26 capex guidance$37bnRaised from $32.5bn.
  • FY26 operating-margin guidance8.2%Raised from 8.0%.

Impact & implications

BofA believes the faster activation of data-center power raises CoreWeave's near-term revenue capacity and supports sequential margin expansion as backlog converts into revenue. The report also emphasizes that the growth path requires substantially higher capital expenditure and leaves earnings estimates lower despite higher revenue forecasts.

Risks

  • The report identifies high price volatility as a downside risk.
  • Customer concentration remains a downside risk.
  • Supplier concentration could constrain capacity.
  • CoreWeave competes with Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, and Amazon AWS, which have greater scale and capacity to fund capital expenditure.

What to watch

  • Further active-power additions toward the more than 1.85GW year-end target, particularly the approximately 350MW BofA expects to be weighted toward 3Q.
  • Conversion of the roughly $104bn RPO balance and early-3Q commitments into revenue.
  • Whether higher-priced contracts, ancillary businesses, and enterprise contracts sustain the projected margin ramp.
  • Capital-expenditure execution against the raised $37bn FY26 guidance.
