Report Interpretation

Overview

Goldman Sachs reviews Innolight following 1Q26 results and materially raises forecasts. The institution sees AI data-center networking upgrades, silicon-photonics adoption, and new optical-interconnect applications supporting faster growth, improving margins, and a higher valuation target.

Core views

Goldman Sachs argues that Innolight should benefit from an accelerating upgrade cycle in AI data-center optical networking. Its revised forecasts assume stronger silicon-photonics-based module shipments as AI server racks ramp, plus addressable-market expansion beyond conventional scale-out networking into scale-up and scale-across applications. The report forecasts global optical-transceiver market value of US$51 billion, US$73 billion and US$69 billion in 2026E, 2027E and 2028E, respectively. The 800G-and-above segment is expected to grow at a 31% CAGR to US$32 billion, US$55 billion and US$56 billion across those years, supported by faster specification migration and projected NVIDIA-powered AI-server rack counts of 55,000, 105,000 and 163,000. The report expects 800G and 1.6T shipments to reach 34 million and 26 million units in 2026E, then 45 million and 46 million in 2027E, while 3.2T shipments are projected to ramp to 13 million units in 2027E. Goldman Sachs links this progression to networking requirements in AI racks: GB200 uses 400G at the GPU layer and 800G across leaf, spine and core layers, while GB300 uses 800G at the GPU layer and 1.6T at leaf and spine layers. It expects Rubin and Rubin Ultra to push further migration toward 1.6T and 3.2T in 2027E-28E. Silicon photonics is forecast to represent 60%, 80% and 100% of 800G, 1.6T and 3.2T transceivers, respectively, by 2026E. Innolight's competitive case rests on its scale and technology position. The report identifies it as the largest global optical-interconnect provider by relevant 2025 revenue, with a 21.2% market share according to LightCounting and CIC, and describes it as a leading supplier across 400G, 800G and 1.6T segments. Goldman Sachs highlights early silicon-photonics commercialization, proprietary coherent-device capabilities, XPO, LPO and LRO development, integrated R&D-to-production teams, reproducible manufacturing processes, flexible equipment, and long-term supplier partnerships. These factors are presented as supporting performance, lower assembly complexity, sourcing flexibility, faster time to market, capacity utilization and supply-chain cost competitiveness. After incorporating 1Q26 results, Goldman Sachs raises 2026E, 2027E and 2028E revenue estimates by 57%, 100% and 118%, to Rmb123,649 million, Rmb249,630 million and Rmb334,038 million. Net-income estimates rise by 65%, 108% and 119%, to Rmb38,401 million, Rmb80,106 million and Rmb109,643 million. The revisions reflect higher expected shipment volumes, more stable high-speed-module market share amid rapid technology change and tight component supply, increased exposure to higher-ASP EML modules, and additional revenue from scale-up products including NPO/CPO optical engines, FAU and ELS modules, OCS switches, and scale-across pluggable modules. The report forecasts revenue CAGR of 64% and net-income CAGR of 69% over 2026-28E. It expects silicon-photonics module shipments to grow at a 52% CAGR and their ASP to rise at an 11% CAGR as the mix shifts toward 1.6T and 3.2T products. Capacity is expected to more than double in 2026E, yet utilization is projected to remain elevated at 71%-80% through 2028E. Gross margin is forecast to rise from 42% in 2025 to 50% in 2028E as silicon-photonics shipment contribution increases from 50% to 69%; net margin is projected to improve from 31% in 2026E to 33% in 2028E through mix improvement and operating leverage. Goldman Sachs also expects ROE of 52%-61% in 2026E-28E, cash-conversion-cycle improvement from 122 days in 2025 to 98 days in 2028E, and a continuing net-cash position despite a projected 155% year-on-year capex increase in 2026E. For valuation, Goldman Sachs continues to use a near-term P/E approach based on peers' relationship between 2027E P/E, forward net-income growth and operating margin. With 2028E earnings growth of 37% and operating margin of 44%, it raises the target multiple to 35.8x 2027E P/E from 34.2x. The resulting 12-month target price is Rmb2,581, up from Rmb1,187. The target multiple sits between the historical average-plus-one-standard-deviation level of 31x and the 42x peak, and Goldman Sachs retains its Buy rating.

Analysis framework

Goldman Sachs combines a global optical-transceiver demand forecast with AI-server rack and networking-specification assumptions, then translates expected shipment, ASP, capacity and product-mix changes into Innolight's revenue, margin, earnings, cash-flow and balance-sheet forecasts. It values the company using a peer-based 2027E P/E framework linked to forward earnings growth and operating margin.
